Senior NVIDIA executives joined Egypt’s AI ecosystem in Cairo on Monday, September 21, bringing together startups, developers, researchers, investors and technology leaders at the Grand Egyptian Museum to discuss the country’s growing role in artificial intelligence and the infrastructure needed to move AI from development to production.
The NVIDIA AI Ecosystem Reception, held at the museum’s Glass Hall, featured Paolo Guglielmini, Vice President of EMEA at NVIDIA, Ahmed Mostafa, Regional AI Adoption Lead for the Middle East and Africa, and Basil Fateen, Head of Startups for the Middle East and Africa at NVIDIA.
The event focused on how Egypt can build and deploy AI across different layers of the technology stack, while strengthening connections between local startups, developers, investors and NVIDIA’s global ecosystem.
In its report on the event, NVIDIA described Egypt’s AI ecosystem as rapidly expanding across AI-focused companies, developers, researchers, startups and enterprises building applications across multiple industries.
From AI Infrastructure to Applications
The event opened with remarks from Paolo Guglielmini, followed by a presentation from Ahmed Mostafa titled “Every Layer, Every Builder: How NVIDIA Accelerates AI.”
The session explored NVIDIA’s full-stack approach to AI development and deployment, highlighting the importance of accelerating the different layers required to build AI applications, from computing infrastructure and platforms to developers and applications.
The agenda also included a panel titled “Egypt’s AI Builders – From Local Innovation to Global Scale,” moderated by Basil Fateen.
The discussion brought together Egyptian AI startups working across smart spaces, healthcare, cybersecurity and robotics, including AvidBeam, Cyberfuse, Marses Robotics Solutions and Proteinea, alongside Algebra Ventures.
The event concluded with remarks from Guglielmini before moving into a networking session that brought together NVIDIA executives, startups, investors, developers and other members of Egypt’s technology ecosystem.
Egypt’s AI Developer Base Expands
One of the key indicators highlighted by NVIDIA is the rapid growth of AI skills and developer activity in Egypt.
According to NVIDIA, the number of learners in Egypt using the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute grew more than tenfold in a single year.
The company said the development reflects growing demand for AI training and technical capabilities as Egyptian developers and companies increasingly move toward building and deploying AI applications.
Egypt is also home to a growing number of startups participating in NVIDIA Inception, the company’s program for AI startups.
NVIDIA highlighted Aidera, Intella, Marses Robotics, Proteinea, Stakpak, Paymob and Thndr among the Egyptian companies participating in the program.
These startups are developing solutions across enterprise intelligence, Arabic speech technology, autonomous robotics, industrial automation, healthcare, developer operations and financial services.
Connecting Egyptian Startups With NVIDIA’s Global Ecosystem
The company also highlighted a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening connections between Egypt’s startup ecosystem and NVIDIA’s global network.
In July, NVIDIA and A15 hosted an event connecting leading Egyptian founders with NVIDIA’s global ecosystem.
NVIDIA also highlighted startup and investor engagements involving A15 and Plug and Play at the Creativa Innovation Hub at Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace, as well as collaborations with RiseUp, Flat6Labs and Algebra Ventures.
The NVIDIA VC Alliance has also expanded its presence in Egypt, with A15 and M Empire joining the program.
According to NVIDIA, their participation connects more local investors with the company’s global startup ecosystem, creating additional links between Egypt’s investment community and the international AI startup landscape.
A $400 Million Data Center Project
AI infrastructure emerged as another major area of cooperation and investment highlighted by NVIDIA.
In June, Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority licensed Hassan Allam Data Centers to build and operate data centers in the country.
Under the license, Hassan Allam Utilities and A15 agreed to develop a new data center with an estimated investment of $400 million.
The development comes as Egypt and other African markets work to increase local access to accelerated computing capacity, allowing companies and developers to train, fine-tune and deploy AI models closer to where their data is generated.
NVIDIA said the expansion of local AI infrastructure is part of a broader shift across Africa, where AI ecosystems are increasingly moving from discussions about future potential toward building the infrastructure required for production-scale deployment.
NVIDIA’s Broader African AI Strategy
The Cairo event also formed part of NVIDIA’s broader focus on the development of AI infrastructure and talent across Africa.
NVIDIA said more than 85,000 developers have been trained across Africa through its programs, after setting a target in 2024 of training 100,000 developers across the continent within three years.
Nigeria has become the second-largest market globally for the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, according to the company.
At the infrastructure level, NVIDIA highlighted the development of AI factories in several African markets. Four AI factories have been announced or brought online across the continent within a year, with another 656 megawatts of capacity in the pipeline.
Cassava Technologies, described by NVIDIA as Africa’s first NVIDIA Cloud Partner, is expanding accelerated computing through its AI factory in South Africa and planned deployments in Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and Morocco.
In Egypt, Cassava Technologies and Vodafone Egypt have announced an AI factory initiative designed to provide businesses and government organizations with locally hosted AI infrastructure through a GPU-as-a-service model, supporting AI application development and deployment while keeping data in the country.
From Enablement to Execution
The developments highlighted during NVIDIA’s Cairo event point to a broader evolution in Egypt’s AI ecosystem: from building technical capabilities and supporting startups toward creating the infrastructure, investment networks and computing capacity required to deploy AI applications at scale.
For NVIDIA, Egypt represents part of a wider African opportunity in which local developers, startups, enterprises and investors are increasingly connected to the infrastructure and global technology ecosystem needed to turn AI development into production applications.
The company’s latest report on Egypt was titled “From Enablement to Execution, Egypt’s AI Ecosystem Reaches Production Scale,” reflecting the central theme of the Cairo event and NVIDIA’s assessment of the direction of the country’s AI ecosystem.
